Global Goals Week

Published by Valerie Carey in #No Poverty #Zero Hunger · 23/1/2017 14:31:34

Mrs Heenan launched Global Goals week at assembly today. Everyone has their globe as a symbol of Social Awareness and their poster of the Global Goals in their classroom to help them to focus on our task this week. The globe reminds us that everyone is on the same planet and we have a shared responsibility to that planet and its environment. The decisions we make about the environment effect everyone so we must "make good decisions." A healthy planet is good for everyone. The planet needs to be healthy to provide food for all the people who share it.
The Global Goals remind us of the wishes we have for all the people of our planet. All people should share the resources of the planet. The United Nations wrote the Global Goals to make a fairer society for all. This week we will identify in the goals what is not yet fair and ask what we can do about it.
Mrs Cahill and her class discussed goals 1 and 2, no poverty and zero hunger. They decided to write to Minister Noonan, the Minister for Finance to ask him to practice Social Awareness in making his decisions. They would like him to contribute more of our public funds to help those in need at home and abroad. The money could finance more homes, education, food and infrastructure - including internet access for those who need it.
It will be a very busy week, lots of learning to be done!
